SHIBUSASHIRAZU/Shibusashirazu Orchestra

Shibusashirazu
Orchestra, which is at the forefront of contemporary jazz, was
formed by bassist Daisuke Fuwa in 1989 as a free jazz orchestra.
The orchestra is, so to speak, a multimedia jazz performance
group consisting of over twenty musicians, including many well
known Japanese performers such as Hiroaki Katayama (ts) and Takeshi
Shibuya (p), as well as Butoh dancers, modern dancers, theater
actors, and artists.
All of the works played by Shibusashirazu Orchestra are Japanese
jazz works composed or arranged by Daisuke Fuwa. The orchestra
gives exciting stage performances, with its dynamic sound and
lively dancing and acting.
Large moving objects made by stage artists make the audiences
even more enthusiastic.
It can be said that Shibusashirazu Orchestra is not only a jazz
orchestra but alsoa group that brings together various aspects
of contemporary Japanese culture.
Some of its performances show the course of Japanese music from
the Middle Ages to the present, as the group includes musicians
playing traditional Japanese instruments such as shamisen, shakuhachi,
and ryuteki (a bamboo flute).

B-41F/42F : Shibu Paris Bukyoku
Shibusashirazu
Orchestra will celebrate their 20th anniversary in July 2009.
Shibu Paris Bukyoku, a double album from Chitei Records featuring a live performance from the orchestra’s 2007 European tour (August 17-September 29), is the first in a series of albums to be released to commemorate their 20th anniversary. The 2007 summer tour covered 12 cities in Europe including Russia. These two CDs contain the entire performance of the last day of the tour at Japan Culture Center in Paris.
When the band left Japan on August 17 for their first destination, Germany--where they had been invited to play at Geldern beim Offside Open--they were a relatively small group of musicians, as it happened to be the middle of Obon Festival week, when airfares in Japan are notoriously high. After Geldern they continued on their tour as a constantly changing troupe of 30 to 55 musicians plus staff members, some of them shuttling back and forth between Europe and Japan. They played in their largest formation at the Nantes Jazz Festival in France, held from August 29 to September 2.
Of all the gigs on the tour, one of the most outstanding turned out to be the last one in Paris on September 29, featured in this album.
Shibu Paris Bukyoku is truly special among the many Shibusashirazu live albums released so far in that it is the first to contain an entire performance from beginning to end, allowing us to experience the spirit, energy and musical excellence of Shibusashirazu all in one listen!
